More details around cancelled DLC for GTA 5 have emerged thanks to a source code leak, including the massive size of a planned Liberty City expansion.
Unlike its predecessor GTA 4, GTA 5 never received any expansions or story DLC outside of GTA Online.
We’ve known for some time that there were plans for DLC, namely a single-player story involving Trevor as a secret agent, which was scrapped. A source code leak from 2023 also revealed plans for DLC based around Liberty City, the New York-inspired setting of GTA 4, but there were no details around what it actually involved.
Now, files from that same 2023 leak have been made public through a debug build of GTA 5 for the PlayStation 3. While the first leak contained only lines of code, this one has allowed dataminers to dig into 192GB of files and unearth actual assets and other information.
As covered by GTA YouTuber TJGM, this includes files from the cut Liberty City DLC. Based on shoreline data in the leak, X user affmalyt has recreated the map expansion for the DLC, and it practically doubles the size of GTA 5’s map (for reference, GTA 5’s map fits into the bottom half of the Liberty City expansion below).
TJGM claims this Liberty City expansion ‘was likely pushed back to become DLC for GTA 6’, but there’s little to suggest this is the case. Rockstar hasn’t announced any DLC for GTA 6, which is set in the Florida-inspired Leonidas, or even the expected online component.

There are a host of other leaked details, including mission names and interiors from the agent Trevor DLC – including an Arab mansion and a space mission – along with cut vehicles.
Cut dialogue between GTA 5 protagonist Franklin and GTA 4 character Brucie has also been found, suggesting the latter was supposed to make a comeback. You can find a summary of the leaks so far here.
Additionally, this leak contains early assets from GTA 6, including early 3D models of regions on the map. However, these assets appear to be from years ago, so they’re of little relevance now.
More details from the leak will likely emerge over the coming days, so we’ll have to wait and see if any other oddities crop up.
While it’s never been confirmed by Rockstar, the success of GTA Online is believed to have led to the cancellation of the aforementioned DLC for GTA 5. Recently, Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser confirmed the Trevor DLC was axed to prioritise development on Red Dead Redemption 2.
