I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! Australia has been cancelled after 12 seasons.

The reality TV series was based on the British television show of the same name and first hit screens in 2015.

It is usually filmed in South Africa and in recent years has been hosted by comedian Julia Morris and Robert Irwin.

Over its 12 seasons its also featured several British stars – including Freddie Flintoff and Joey Essex.

Despite the UK version continuing to be a ratings juggernaut for ITV for 24 years, the Australian version has failed to secure a loyal audience and achieve the same success.

After weeks of speculation the series was on the chopping block, broadcaster Channel 10 has now confirmed it won’t be going ahead next year.

‘We have made the decision to rest I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in 2027 as we focus on offering our audience a range of content on all platforms,’ a spokesperson for the network announced today.

‘We look forward to working with Julia Morris and Robert Irwin on other projects.’

After initially seeing the news, many people admitted they first thought the UK series could have been axed.

‘I cannot tell you the range of emotions I went through until I realised,’ Jade commented on X.

‘The way I read this thinking I’m a Celebrity fully got cancelled and got scared for a sec,’ Victoria shared.

‘The way my heart just stopped…’ Ella wrote.

‘I thought this meant UK…’ Dan added.

However, many other fans of the series Down Under were left hugely disappointed.

‘That sucks I really enjoyed watching this show was funny and heart wrenching,’ Joanna commented.

‘Wow wrong move channel 10 sorry very disappointing,’ Kiara declared.

‘That was one of my favourite shows,’ Lou added.

But after the last season was no longer filmed live, many old fans of the show said it ‘wasn’t the same’.

Last week TV Blackbox reported the supposed cancellation was down to budget cuts within the network.

Meanwhile the Sydney Morning Herald said sources from Channel Ten and production company ITV Studios Australia claimed the network was eager to keep the show running, but the costs were proving to be too high with the current format.

‘10 has been running the ruler over I’m a Celeb for months on end,’ one source told the publication.

‘They’ve been looking at every possible option to make it stack up financially but in the end, it’ll come down to whether or not they can justify the cost.’

Following news of the series’ cancellation, Julia said it had been ‘the best working experience of my lifetime’.

‘I have loved every moment and will be forever grateful. And to our jungle family watching from home, we love you,’ she said.

Robert – who is the son of late Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin and also recently won Dancing with the Stars in the US – said it had been an ‘absolute privilege’ to work on the show over the past three seasons.

‘I grew up watching this show as so many Aussies do, so to be part of the fantastic team that make this series a reality felt like a dream come true,’ he said.

‘We have had the honour of sharing incredible stories and create a platform to shine a light on amazing charities that our celebrities have supported along the way.

‘And to do it all alongside my co-host, and friend, Julia Morris made it a truly life-changing experience that I will remember for the rest of my life.’

ITV Studios Australia chief executive David Mott said they were ‘disappointed’ with Channel Ten’s decision as the series ‘has consistently been one of their highest-performing entertainment series’.

‘Naturally, we are disappointed with their decision, but we also respect it,’ before adding that they’d try to have another network pick it up/

‘Given this powerhouse brand’s appeal with audiences and sponsors alike, we are excited to take it out to market with other broadcasters and platforms so it can continue to entertain audiences for years to come.  More to come…’ he added.
