A 21-year-old man died after being shot early Saturday near Ford City Mall on the Southwest Side.
Martin Murillo was outside about 2:50 a.m. in the 7600 block of South Cicero Avenue when someone approached him and fired shots, according to Chicago police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Murillo suffered a head wound and was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead later in the morning, authorities said. He was from South Bend, Indiana.
The gunman fled in a red SUV, police said. No arrests were reported.
Ford City is slated for closure later this month. A Cook County judge ordered it to shut down after complaints from city officials citing decay at the property as an “imminent danger” to tenants and shoppers.
