Beartooth frontman Caleb Shomo shared he is a ‘proudly gay man’ after ending his marriage of nearly 14 years to wife Fleur Shomo.
He wrote: ‘I feel compelled to set the record straight before it affects those I love any further. I am a proudly gay man.’
The 33-year-old singer was addressing speculation sparked earlier this year by the music video for new song Free, in which he embraced a more gender fluid look.
His makeover prompted homophobic comments online, including from Attila frontman Chris Fronzak, which he later deleted and apologised for.
Caleb’s wife, Fleur, has voiced her support for him in an Instagram post, which included a video of the pair dancing together.
So, as Caleb embraces this ‘new chapter’, here’s everything you need to know about the singer’s addiction struggles, marriage, and his career with Beartooth.
Who is Caleb Shomo?
Caleb is the lead singer of Beartooth, a band he started in 2012 as a pressure-free music experiment while in another group, Attack Attack.
He joined metalcore band Attack Attack in the mid-00s while still a teenager, eventually becoming the lead singer.
After a decade with the group, he left, citing his mental health as a factor in his decision to step away, and they disbanded on his exit.
He had begun writing music for Beartooth before leaving his former band, signing with Red Bull Records in 2012 and releasing their debut EP, Sick, the following year.
Since then, they’ve released five studio albums, with the last full record dropping in 2023 to widespread critical acclaim.
Much of Caleb’s music reflects on addiction, depression and self-image issues.
Speaking about his candid lyrics in 2023, he told V13: ‘I just talk about whatever’s going on in my life. And this time what’s going on in my life is just very different than what’s been going on in my life for the last, you know, eight years prior of doing Beartooth before this record.
‘I guess, if anything, you could say the point is me trying to manifest and solidify just a healthier way of life for myself, mentally, whatever it may be, you know?’
Who is Caleb Shomo’s wife, Fleur?
The same year that he formed Beartooth, Caleb married Fleur, an actress and podcast host.
She recently appeared as a supporting cast member in season two of medical drama The Pitt, sharing a snap of herself on a hospital bed.
‘I just want to say how wonderful it was to be a small piece of this groundbreaking show,’ Fleur wrote on Instagram, expressing that she’d love to return next season.
‘I spent 4 months on set as background & I’d like to think I used almost every minute of that time watching, learning & taking in everything I absolutely could,’ she continued.
Fleur also hosted the podcast My Top 5 from 2019 to 2022, promising to go on a ‘summer break’ but the show never returned.
In December, she shared a post celebrating her 13th anniversary with Caleb, writing: ‘3 years married today and I wouldn’t change a thing.’
She added: ‘You’re still my favourite person and make me laugh like no other. I love us. My main lemon for always. You are awesome sauce. And I love you. 🖤.’
What did Caleb Shomo’s wife say about his coming out?
Shortly after Caleb’s statement, Fleur shared one of her own detailing the ‘disorientating and hurtful’ past few months, in which she said her own mental health has suffered.
‘To support him whilst losing everything has been incredibly hard to figure out, she wrote. ‘You can love and support your person through the hardest time in their life, whilst also be completely demolished and lose yourself at the same time.
‘Nobody will know anything about our marriage like we do…I already miss it and my husband more than anything,’ she added. ‘Our story was a good one. And now it’s done.’
She has since locked down her personal Instagram account, changing it to a private account, although she also has a gluten-free food profile which is open.
Fleur hadn’t posted on this secondary account for over a year but shared a post in March, declaring, ‘I’m back baby!’
