Kim Basinger Shares Rare Throwback Video with Bruce Willis Following His Dementia Diagnosis

Kim Basinger and Bruce Willis

Kim Basinger leads a rather private life these days, only occasionally popping up during family outings with her daughter, Ireland, and granddaughter, Holland, or sharing posts on social media. For instance, following Bruce Willis’ dementia diagnosis, the award-winning actress has shared a rare — and touching — video of herself with her former co-star.

For those who need a little context, “[a]fter kicking off her career as a model in the ’70s, Basinger switched to acting,” according to Parade. “During the ’80s, Basinger made waves alongside Mickey Rourke in the sexy drama 9 1/2 Weeks, and skyrocketed to the top of the box office in the role of Vicki Vale in Tim Burton‘s Batman, alongside Michael Keaton. However, it was her role in 1997’s L.A. Confidential that earned her an Academy Award. But in a new Instagram post, it’s her role in the 1987 flick Blind Date alongside Willis that Basinger is reflecting on.”

Kim & Bruce Had a Great Time Starring Together in ‘Blind Date’

On Friday, March 27, Basinger took to Instagram to share a video of herself with Willis to mark the anniversary of their film. In the caption, she wrote, “Nobody could’ve been a better partner than Bruce Willis for this movie…”

“Blind date was such an opportunity for us all to work with Blake Edwards and just let it loose…,” she continued. “And as you can see… We did just that… When Blake said go we just went… Can’t believe it’s been 39 years… So blessed… Thank you all🙏✨🩷✨🌸”

Basinger’s fans left plenty of comments on the post, with one person writing, “One of the best films made! 🍾”

“I love this movie!! Bruce and you are brillant and a wonderful couple. 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️,” another follower added.

A third fan wrote, “This movie! I can’t count how many times I’ve seen it. I belly laugh every single time. Classic!”

The Film Focuses on a Blind Date that ‘Turns into a Chaotic Night’

“When bachelor Walter Davis (Bruce Willis) is set up with his sister-in-law’s pretty cousin, Nadia Gates (Kim Basinger), a seemingly average blind date turns into a chaotic night on the town,” according to Rotten Tomatoes Classic Trailers. “Walter’s brother, Ted (Phil Hartman), tells him not to let Nadia drink alcohol, but he dismisses the warning, and her behavior gets increasingly wild. Walter and Nadia’s numerous incidents are made even worse as her former lover David (John Larroquette) relentlessly follows them around town.”

The late Roger Ebert wrote about the film in March 1987, saying, “She’s a blind date, all right. One glass of Champagne and she’s chewing on his lips. Two glasses and she’s shouting across crowded restaurants and ripping the pockets off of men’s suits. It doesn’t take much to get her blind. One drink will do it, and it is the misfortune of the hero of ‘Blind Date’ that he gives her that one drink.”

Ebert added, “[W]hen I was laughing, I was genuinely laughing — there are some absolutely inspired moments.”
