90s grunge band L7 have confirmed that bassist Jennifer Finch won’t be joining them on their final tour after she was diagnosed with cancer.

The all-female group were set to embark on their Last Hurrah Tour in October, 40 years after first forming in Los Angeles.

Jennifer, 59, was due to join them on tour but now requires ‘extensive medical care’ after being diagnosed with an ‘aggressive’ form of brain cancer.

‘Our beloved bandmate, sister and friend Jennifer Finch has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer,’ L7 wrote on Instagram.

‘Following multiple surgeries and serious complications, Jennifer now requires extensive medical care, rehabilitation and professional in-home support.’

L7 exploded in the punk scene in the late 80s, touring and releasing four albums before their hiatus in 1996. They reformed in 2014, dropping another record.

The band continued that while the tour ‘was planned along with Jennifer when all four of us were in good health and spirits’, she had asked them to continue without her.

On Jennifer’s page, her family shared a picture of her lying in a hospital bed, pulling a silly face with the caption that she ‘has never gone quietly’.

‘Jennifer has spent her life making noise,’ the post read. ‘Making art. Making history. Challenging expectations. Kicking down doors. Showing up for people.

‘Giving a damn when it would have been easier not to. Now it’s our turn to show up for her.’

Throughout her long career, Jennifer has worked as a photographer, an actress, and primarily a musician.

She also worked closely with Courtney Love in her early career, before joining L7 in 1986, becoming a driving force behind their success.

L7 is best known for track Pretend We’re Dead which peaked at 21 on the UK singles chart, and served as the name for their 2016 documentary.
