NBC Cancels 2 Highly Rated Shows

NBC, Brilliant Minds, Stumble

NBC is home to several popular shows, for some, this includes medical drama “Brilliant Minds” and mockumentary “Stumble.” Unfortunately, the network has decided not to renew either series for a new season, despite each having some popularity.

Variety reported on May 1 that “Brilliant Minds” and “Stumble” were canceled. Per the report, “Brilliant Minds,” which is in its second season, will air its remaining six episodes starting May 27. As fans know, NBC previously aired 14 episodes from the season.

However, NBC shelved the show in February 2026 due to low viewership. It initially premiered in September 2024, wrapping season one in January of the following year.

Regarding “Stumble,” the show premiered in November and concluded in March 2026.

“Brilliant Minds,” starring Zachary Quinto, Tamberla Perry, and Ashleigh LaThrop, was part of NBC’s fall 2024 lineup. It seemed promising from the start, as medical dramas often run for long stretches on network television.

Regarding critical reception, the series was well-received by audiences and critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the show has an 81 and an 88%, respectively. This easily puts it into the “certified fresh” territory on the platform.

That’s not all, “Brilliant Minds” also became a hit with viewers in its first season. According to Deadline, the show’s premiere received 9.2 million cross-platform viewers. Notably, this was a 138% increase over the live-plus-same-day viewership for the episode.

Unfortunately, the high viewership didn’t last for “Brilliant Minds.” As mentioned, NBC pulled the show from its schedule in February 2026 due to a general lack of interest. Instead, the network airs two-hour episodes of “The Voice.”

The NBC series also starred Alex MacNicoll, Aury Krebs, Spence Moore II, Teddy Sears, Donna Murphy, John Clarence Stewart, Brian Altemus, and Al Calderon. Michael Grassi created the series and produced it alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, Lee Toland Krieger, DeMane Davis, Jasmine Russ, Henrik Bastin, Jonathan Cavendish, Andy Serkis, and Shefali Malhoutra.

Per the show’s tagline, “Dr. Wolf and his team at Bronx General as they delve into medical mysteries of the mind. Ultimately, they come face-to-face with the question: Who deserves care?”

‘Stumble’ Was Also Well Recieved

As mentioned, NBC premiered “Stumble” in November 2025. The series, starring Jenn Lyon, takes place at a junior college and centers on a cheerleading coach who was fired for drinking with her squad. Specifically, the junior college serves as her second chance after the incident.

“Stumble” received stellar reviews. Critics on Rotten Tomatoes gave the show an 82% rating, while audiences loved it even more, as evidenced by its 96% rating.

The viewership is where NBC had a problem with the show. According to TV Series Finale, “Stumble” premiered on November 7, attracting a little over 2 million viewers. By network television standards, this isn’t a strong start. Unfortunately, it then slipped to 1.7 million viewers for its second episode.

The subsequent episodes then fluctuated, with some weeks nearing the two-million-viewer milestone set by the premiere episode. Ultimately, this shows that there was a stable, yet small audience for the show and that it may have been a better fit for a streaming service.
