Official GTA 5 roleplay mod arrives in beta ahead of GTA 6 launch

It’s looking likelier that GTA 6 will receive official roleplay mod support as Rockstar plans to launch an updated roleplay server for GTA 5 next month.

For years, there has been a dedicated roleplaying community for GTA 5, more specifically its multiplayer mode GTA Online, where players make use of a mod called FiveM to partake in custom experiences not typically possible in the regular game, such as everyone roleplaying as cops and robbers.

In 2023, Rockstar decided to officially support the mod by just acquiring it and then, in 2025, it threw its weight behind NoPixel, one of the most popular GTA 5 roleplaying servers, to collaborate on a major update simply labelled NoPixel 5.

Almost a year later and the NoPixel team is ready to lift the lid on the update via a closed beta that will even be available through the official Rockstar Games Launcher, which lends credence to the idea that Rockstar is planning roleplay support for GTA 6 as well.

NoPixel announced plans for its closed beta via Discord, which has since been shared on X, explaining that it will become available starting from September 8.

Only select participants will be allowed in though invites will gradually be rolled out and as access to NoPixel 5 is expanded. It is possible to register interest in joining the server through the NoPixel website, but it’s only available for GTA Online on PC and you obviously need to have the FiveM mod installed.

A fancy trailer is also being teased for September 1 though the team assures that despite this being a ‘full rebuild’ that promises new locations, vehicles, and a more in depth city, both the current NoPixel servers aren’t going anywhere and will still be accessible for those still using them.

The fact that this will be available through Rockstar’s own launcher means Rockstar is serious about supporting the GTA roleplaying community and should mean GTA 6 will see similar support.

Such support won’t be available at launch since the game is only coming to consoles and there hasn’t been any official mention of GTA 6’s inevitable online multiplayer mode, informally dubbed GTA Online 2 by fans.

However, a PC port is bound to come eventually and there are rumours that Rockstar wants GTA 6’s online mode to support user generated content which can be monetised.

This was already possible with the FiveM mod so Rockstar’s integration of it suggests roleplaying content will play a key role in GTA 6’s longevity. Perhaps it will even bring mod support to the console versions.

As for how long roleplaying aficionados will need to wait for such support to become available in GTA 6, that’s anybody’s guess. Although Rockstar will be sharing some GTA 6 news very soon.

An extended preview of the game is scheduled to air on Netflix (and later YouTube) next week and aside from some proper gameplay footage, Rockstar could lift the lid on when a PC port and/or GTA Online 2 will arrive.

While there’s no official run time, it’s also rumoured that the preview will be about an hour long and spread out across three episodes, which would mean Rockstar has a lot of info to share.
