A touching tribute to the late filmmaker Rob Reiner has left fans feeling emotionally devastated.

The director was best known for his classic films The Princess Bride, Stand By Me, When Harry Met Sally and Misery.

He and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were tragically killed in December last year, following an alleged attack by their son, Nick Reiner.

In addition to his work as a writer and director, Reiner was also a prolific actor, having appeared in his own Spinal Tap films.

He also appeared in Series Four of the hit drama The Bear, playing no-nonsense business consultant Albert Schnurr.

With The Bear returning to screens for its fifth and final series, the show has paid tribute to the great filmmaker with a subtle yet sweet nod to his work.

In the series finale, Ebra, played by Edwin Lee Gibson, gives Albert a call to share some good news.

‘Albert, we are in business,’ says Ebra. ‘It’s perfect. I will have all the documents, email it to you immediately. Anything else I can do?’

While Albert’s response cannot be heard by viewers, Ebra responds: ‘As you wish.’

This is a reference to Reiner’s 1987 hit The Princess Bride – a line originally spoken by Cary Elwes’ Westley.

The nod to Reiner’s most beloved creation was not lost on fans.

Reiner’s son, Nick, is currently awaiting trial for allegedly murdering his parents.

Earlier this month, the 32-year-old claimed that he is owed over $1million ininheritance money – with which he wants to hire an expensive lawyer.

He’s currently in prison, where he is pleading not guilty to the two murder charges.

He has been held there without bail since his detainment, with his next preliminary hearing scheduled for September.

As he awaits trial, he has filed a petition to request access to money from a trust fund set up in his name.

Among those paying tribute to the filmmaker and his wife was Martin Scorsese, who described their death as ‘an obscenity.’

‘What happened to Rob and Michele is an obscenity, an abyss in lived reality. The only thing that will help me to accept it is the passing of time,’ wrote Scorsese in a piece for The New York Times.

‘He was hilarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would take over the room.

‘He had a beautiful sense of uninhibited freedom, fully enjoying the life of the moment, and he had a great barreling laugh.’

The director shared: ‘He could improvise with the best, he was a master at comedy, he worked beautifully with Leo and the rest of the guys, and he understood the human predicament of his character: The man loved his son, he was happy with his success, but he knew that he was destined for a fall.’
