On Sunday, April 5 — the eve of Savannah Guthrie’s return to “Today” — a photo began circulating online showing movers outside of her mother Nancy Guthrie’s Tucson, Arizona, home.

In the snap, three men are seen carrying moving boxes on the front porch and entryway of Guthrie’s home.

Nancy Guthrie Moving Photo Believed to Be AI

“Did someone say people were moving boxes out of Nancy Guthrie’s house today? why? What if she comes back? I am so confused,” one social media user shared via X alongside the alleged photograph.

As the image began to pick up steam, social media users flooded the comments with criticism of the apparently AI-generated image.

The photo shows an aerial view of the front of Guthrie’s home, as a pyramid of cardboard moving boxes is seen stacked in the dirt garden. One man is carrying a box labeled “Fragile” near the front archway and is wearing a collared shirt and tie. Another man is crouched down amid the plants as he lifts another box. A third man carries two boxes away from the home, one labeled “Kitchen.” A large empty box sits open in the middle of the walking path.

All three men appear to have similar features and builds, and don the same uniform.

“More importantly who tf where’s khakis and a tie to move a home in AZ!?” one user pointed out.

“Fake picture. Nancy’s sidewalk isn’t concrete,” another noted.

“I’m wondering if it’s a real pic at this point. The left guy has no reason to be in [the dirt] and the people seem rather big compared to the entry. But I don’t know, I seen it on x,” the original poster responded.

“Look close not even a real pic,” another plainly stated, as another agreed, calling the image, “Obviously AI.”

Grok, X’s AI assistant, also claimed the image was “not real.”

“That image is a generic stock photo of a similar desert home, not actual footage. The rumor seems to be baseless speculation,” the statement continued.

Savannah Guthrie Returns to ‘Today’

Savannah Guthrie returned to her co-host position at “Today” on Monday, April 6, more than two months after her mother’s disappearance.

While the search for the 84-year-old continues, the beloved co-host opened the show with a smile.

“We are so glad you started your week with us, and it is good to be home,” Guthrie said to begin her first day back. “It is good to be home. Here we go, ready or not — let’s do the news.”
