Jamie Laing is a presenter on Channel 4’s The Boat Race 2026 and has been blasted by viewers on X for ‘asking everyone the same question’.

The Made in Chelsea star has been working alongside broadcasting legend Clare Balding to bring coverage of the annual races to people’s screens.

Each year, men and women from the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford compete against one another in a 4.25 mile boat race from Putney to Mortlake.

Oxford-born Jamie Laing presents for BBC Radio 1, but his interview style has been criticised after ‘asking everyone’ in the boat race: ‘How are you feeling?’

@GroovyRacer on X wrote: ‘Jamie Laing is ridiculous. He simply asks everyone in the #boatrace “How are you feeling?”.’

Other users felt the same, with Adam Gray commenting: ‘Someone should tell Jamie Laing he’s allowed to ask other questions than “How are you feeling?” and “How proud are you?”’.’

While Claire Crew determined that it showed ‘a total lack of interviewing technique’.

Despite the criticism, Jamie handled a live broadcasting mishap with ease as he was interviewing an excited cox post-race.

Louis Corrigan, who was at the helm of the winning Oxford women’s boat told Jamie it had been a ‘f***ing awesome day’.

Jamie quickly apologised live on air and said: ‘Excuse for the language, we’re celebrating – it’s ok!’ The cox also held his hand up to the camera and apologised after blurting out the expletive.

After the incident, Jamie seamlessly continued with his broadcast, talking to Louis: ‘Listen, you know this stretch of the water, you know it well.’

The prestigious race has taken place since 1829 for the men, with the women’s race starting nearly 100 years later in 1927.
