âOn the afternoon of December 14, I was in Union Station at a celebration of life for one of my best friends, Christian Anderson, who died in October. It was at that moment I received a call from my sister Romy telling me our father was dead.â
Moments later, he said, the reality became even more devastating.
âMinutes later, she called back, telling me our mother was also dead.â
Reiner described the immediate aftermath as overwhelming and disorienting, recalling the difficult journey home as he tried to process what had just happened.
âThe 45-minute Lyft ride from downtown to the west side was unendurable. My world, as I knew it, had collapsed.â

âI still wake up every morning having to convince myself that, no, itâs not a dream. This truly is my living nightmare.â
The loss has also reshaped how he views the future, affecting everything from major life milestones to the everyday moments he once expected to share with them.
âMy parents wonât be at my wedding, they wonât get to hold their future grandchild, and they wonât get to see me have the successful career Iâm still seeking.â
Remembering His Parentsâ Love, Strength, and Presence

âTo me, my parents are at the center of my life. They are my guiding lights, the foundation of who I am as a human being, and the most giving people I have ever known.â
