The controversial Channel 4 show, Virgin Island, features two sex therapists who get sensual together on the show.

As part of their intimacy course on the Mediterranean retreat, twelve adults who have never had sex are given exercises by Dr Danielle Harel and Celeste Hirschman to practice between on one another.

They’re designed to try and help the group of participants who often have certain barriers when it comes to things like physical touch, emotional intimacy, and sexual encounters.

Type the women’s names into Google and you’ll see an array of searches like ‘are Celeste and Danielle together’, with some even questioning if they’re married.

Speaking to The Mirror, the pair reiterated that they’re not.

Revealing what we don’t see in the final edit, Danielle explained that after one of their pillow talk sessions, they both reminded the group of their relationship: ‘We were just like: “You know, we’re not lovers – we’re business partners and we are practicing with each other.”‘

Danielle explained that this ‘set up the stage for them to really practice with each other and not feel awkward about it.’

In the episode which aired this week, Danielle and Celeste perform an animal game which involves them rolling around and touching each other’s bodies.

After demonstrating, the young adults are encouraged to try the game themselves.

Celeste told The Mirror that this went better with the series two cast than it had with the series one group because they had more of an idea of what was coming.

Together, Danielle and Celeste are co-founders of the Somatica Institute, which trains coaches in their ‘hands-on experiential method of sex and relationship coaching’.

The approach ‘combines emotional connection with practical tools to build confidence, communication and intimacy.’

Celeste and Danielle have a joint Instagram account where they share tips for ‘love, sex, and transformation’.

In a post on her personal page last year, Danielle revealed that she was celebrating her 31st wedding anniversary with her husband.

She told Sisters in the City podcast that the secret to a long and happy marriage was yes, great sex, but also ‘a lot of freedom’.

The therapist said that her husband was ‘full of compersion’ and that he ‘really loved to see her getting sexy…’.

Virgin Island is available to watch on Channel 4 and continues on Monday, May 4.
