Two people died in separate car crashes early Sunday on Chicago expressways.
A driver crashed into a pedestrian around 3:10 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-290 near Pulaski Road, according to a statement from Illinois State Police. The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene. The two right lanes and the on-ramp from Independence Avenue to I-290 were closed until around 6:45 a.m.
The second fatal crash happened roughly 30 minutes later in the southbound lanes of the Dan Ryan Expressway, state police said. Two cars collided at 18th Street and two people were taken to a nearby hospital. One person was later pronounced dead. State police did not say if the injured people were passengers or drivers.
All lanes were closed and traffic was diverted until 7:45 a.m., state police said.
