Democratic Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove, in office since 2023, held a double-digit lead in a nine-candidate field when early votes were counted early Tuesday evening in the race to represent California’s 37th Congressional District.
Kamlager-Dove is facing challenges from four fellow Democrats: Ryan Duckett, an attorney; Elizabeth Fenner, a library technician; Todd Lombardo, a small business owner; and Samantha Mota, a community advocate who has served on the Santa Monica Public Safety and Reform Oversight Commission.
Other candidates include Republican entrepreneur and lobbyist Baltazar Fedalizo and social justice advocate John Thompson Parker, a Peace and Freedom Party member. In addition, retired peace officer Steve Hill and Metro train mechanic Juan Rey are running as no party preference candidates.
LIVE ELECTION RESULTS: See the latest vote counts
At nine, this district is tied with two others for the largest number of candidates in an L.A. County House race in this primary election cycle. (The other two being Districts 26 and 32.)
California’s 37th Congressional District includes south and southwest L.A., South Vermont and Culver City. The district’s geographic shape didn’t change much because of the mid-cycle redistricting that California voters approved last year.
As a result, its voter breakdown was also largely unchanged.
In this district, 62.40% of registered voters are Democrats, 8.67% are Republicans and 21.98% have no party preference.
The top two vote-getters in the primary election, regardless of party affiliation, will face off in the November general election.
Vote tallies will be updated throughout the night and in the coming days as more ballots are counted, so check back periodically for the latest information.
