2026 Election Results: In CA-43, D-Maxine Waters faces 3 challengers

Rep. Maxine Waters, one of the longest serving members of the House, led a four-candidate field early Tuesday in the race to represent California’s 43rd Congressional District.

Challengers include fellow Democrats Myla Rahman, executive director of a nonprofit that provides vision care to communities that are underserved, and David Sedlik, an aerospace sales engineer. Republican Cristian Morales, a manufacturing executive, also is running for the seat.

Waters was first elected in 1990.

The 8:48 p.m. update from the registrar’s office showed Waters leading with 63% of the vote, followed by Morales at roughly 20%, Rahman at 13% and Sedlik at 4%.

California’s 43rd Congressional District represents portions of South Los Angeles and the South Bay region of L.A. County, including all or parts of Inglewood, Hawthorne, Gardena, Watts, Compton and Torrance.

The district is a Democratic stronghold: 57.89% of registered voters here are Democrats, while 11.77% are Republicans. Another 22.81% have no party preference.

The top two vote-getters in the primary election, regardless of party affiliation, will face off in the November general election.
