Andrew’s former Royal Lodge home is up for grabs – but at a big cost

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s former Royal Lodge home could soon have a new inhabitant – but it comes with a very strict set of rules.
The 30-room mansion on the Windsor estate is officially up for grabs after Andrew moved out in February and relocated to the Sandringham estate in Norfolk.
However, anyone hoping to move in will need to pass a series of checks.
According to The Times, prospective buyers will face ‘strict security tests’ before being considered for the home, which Andrew shared with his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson.
They will also need to spend roughly £400,000 a year on upkeep when the Windsor estate is offered for lease from October.

It comes more than six months after the former Prince left the property following Andrew’s association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Andrew, now known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, had lived at Royal Lodge since 2003, while Sarah joined him there after the couple moved back in together.
The pair divorced in 1996 but continued living under the same roof for almost two decades.
Royal Lodge is owned by the Crown Estate and comes with a swimming pool, several outbuildings and plenty of royal history.
The property was also once enjoyed by King George VI and his wife, Elizabeth.
However, it appears no other member of the Royal Family is rushing to take over the lease.

Andrew’s daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie, were initially set to take over the home before their dad, 66, passed his 75-year lease on the Lodge back to the Crown Estate.
Previously, there was speculation over whether Prince William and Kate Middleton could take over the Royal Lodge.
Instead, the couple moved into the nearby Forest Lodge, an eight-bedroom mansion which has been described as their ‘forever home’.
In October 2025, King Charles stripped Andrew of his royal titles and privileges. He and Sarah were then evicted from the property in February.
Just days later, on his 66th birthday, Andrew was arrested at Marsh Farm on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
The investigation is ongoing and Andrew has not been charged with a crime.
