Beach hazards statement in place for Los Angeles County beaches until Saturday evening
Catalina/Santa Barbara Islands, Malibu and Los Angeles County Beaches are the focus of a beach hazards statement released at 1:03 p.m. on Saturday by the National Weather Service. The statement is in effect until 8 p.m.
“Dangerous rip currents and breaking waves due to elevated surf,” can be expected according to the NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA. “Many, strong rip currents are reported from south facing beaches. Use extra caution and swim near a lifeguard.”
“There is an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Waves can wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats nearshore,” according to the NWS. “Remain out of the water due to hazardous swimming conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in such conditions, stay off the rocks.”
