Beach hazards statement issued for Malibu and Los Angeles County Beaches from Saturday to Monday
Malibu and Los Angeles County Beaches are the focus of a beach hazards statement released at 11:27 a.m. on Thursday by the National Weather Service. The statement is valid from Saturday 6 p.m. until Monday May 18, at 9 a.m.
“Dangerous rip currents and breaking waves due to elevated surf expected,” the NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA said. “Minor Beach erosion and isolated minor coastal flooding is possible. Most likely during the evening high tides (7pm to 11pm) on Saturday and Sunday.”
“There is an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Waves can wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats nearshore,” according to the NWS. “Remain out of the water due to hazardous swimming conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in such conditions, stay off the rocks.”
