A 16-year-old boy who was among three teens shot — including his 18-year-old brother — after attending a barbecue in the Austin neighborhood last week has died, officials said.
Cortez Hall, an Austin High School student, died at 10:32 p.m. Thursday at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office and a Chicago police report. An autopsy is scheduled.
Hall and the other two teens were shot Aug. 18 about 9:30 p.m. after they’d left a front yard barbecue in the 5500 block of West Quincy Street, police and the medical examiner’s office said.
After walking west to the 200 block of South Central Avenue, four assailants began shooting after jumping out of two vehicles that had stopped directly east of them, according to a police report.
The 18-year-old was shot in his right side and Hall was shot in the chest, shoulder and right leg, police said. The siblings were initially in critical condition – both at Mount Sinai.
Another 16-year-old boy, who was found by officers at the scene with a graze wound to his arm and refused medical attention, police said.
The assailants sped away north on Central and were not arrested, according to the report.
No arrests have been reported.
Detectives are investigating.
