CEO of violence prevention group shot to death in Chicago Heights office

A top official of a violence prevention group was found shot to death in his office over the weekend.

Andre Thomas, 57, had worked in violence-plagued areas of Chicago through his organization Integrity & Fidelity, formed in 2021. Thomas was CEO and executive director of the group.

Thomas was found about 9:25 p.m. Saturday in his Chicago Heights office in the 400 block of West 14th Street, Chicago Heights police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. Thomas, of Matteson, had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, according to the medical examiner’s office, which ruled his death a homicide.

Thomas’ relatives declined to comment when reached by a Sun-Times reporter Monday.

“This is an unimaginable loss, not only for his family, friends, and colleagues, but also for the countless individuals and communities whose lives he touched through his leadership, commitment, and service,” Ald. David Moore (17th) posted on Facebook. “My heart is heavy as I struggle to process this senseless act of violence.”

Andre Thomas, executive director of Integrity and Fidelity, wears a backwards blue cap and yellow work vest as he stands outside the Faith Temple Baptist Church in the Englewood neighborhood.

Andre Thomas, of south suburban Matteson, was 57 years old.

Thomas’ organization works in parts of the city and south suburbs most affected by gun violence. In a previous interview with the Chicago Sun-Times, Thomas said that investing money in communities affected by violence was key in reducing gun violence.

“No one with a 40-hour job is going out and shooting and killing,” Thomas told the Sun-Times.
