Chicago Stars’ Mallory Swanson scores in return to USWNT for friendly against Spain

Chicago Stars forward Mallory Swanson didn’t need much time to get back onto the scorer’s sheet in her first appearance with the U.S. Women’s National Team in nearly two years.

Swanson, playing her first match with USWNT since giving birth to her first child last year, delivered a powerful strike in the 86th minute of a match between the U.S. and Spain to tie things up, 2-2.

While it was only a friendly, an exhibition-style match with no bearing on World Cup qualification, it was still a big moment for Swanson and her teammates as they ready for the 2027 World Cup.

The two teams eventually went on to a 2-2 draw at Subaru Park in Chester, Pennsylvania. Ashley Sanchez scored the other goal for USWNT, which had to overcome a 2-0 deficit following early scores by Spain’s Alexia Putellas and Salma Paralluelo.
