U.S. Representative Jake Auchincloss (D-MA), a Harvard- and MIT-educated U.S. Marine Corps veteran, appeared on Fox News to discuss Iran’s new demands for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, over which it has largely asserted control since the U.S. bombing campaign began. Auchincloss addressed President Donald Trump directly on-air, and said: “I know Donald Trump watches your show, so I say to him directly, Mr. Trump, you are the only president in American history to start and lose a war by yourself.”
Auchincloss added: “You have made America more weak, more alone, and less respected.”

Auchincloss is running for re-election, and is being challenged by Jason Poulos, a self-described “independent researcher with expertise in artificial intelligence and policy,” in the Democratic primary. The primary will be held on September 1.
Poulos, who has the endorsement of Progressive Democrats of America, says that he is not accepting money from corporate PACs, crypto PACs, or AIPAC.
The Republican candidate vying for Auchincloss’s seat, Thomas Stalcup, is a physicist who supported Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) when he was a Democratic candidate for president. Stalcup said he was a liberal Democrat until 2016, when (according to Stalcup), “Hillary Clinton’s campaign basically colluded with the DNC to rig the campaign against Bernie in the primary.”
“I’ve been anti-war my whole life,” Stalcup told Brookline News. “The one thing I really liked about the transition recently for the Republican Party on the national stage was their non-interventionist policies.”
Addressing President Trump’s decision to go to war with Iran in February, Stalcup said: “Trump’s adventure in Iran now has made me feel that I will not shy away from speaking out publicly against the foreign policy of the current administration.”
