The Cubs activated utility man Matt Shaw from the injured list Friday and optioned outfielder Kevin Alcántara to Triple-A Iowa.
Shaw went on the injured list June 29 with a sprained left hand. He was batting .246 with four home runs, 20 RBI and a .737 OPS in 56 games at the time. In five rehab appearances at Iowa, he hit .316, going 6-for-19.
Alcántara has hit .240 (6-for-25) with one home run and six RBI in 24 games with the Cubs this season.
