Flower shop staffer fatally shot in Humboldt Park drive-by over weekend

Police are seeking a silver car in connection with a fatal drive-by shooting that left a 29-year-old flower shop employee dead Sunday in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.

The man, 29, was walking in the 2700 block of West Thomas Street around 8:50 a.m. Sunday when he was shot multiple times by someone in a silver vehicle, Chicago police said.

The victim, an employee at the flower shop located at the corner of Thomas and California, was approached by the offender, described as a male Hispanic who produced a firearm and began shooting at him, according to a police report.

The shooter, who fled in a vehicle of an unknown make and model, fled the scene and the victim was subsequently pronounced dead at 9:41 p.m., the report said.

The crime scene was located which consisted of 7 expended cartridge casings. ATC responded to the scene and is canvassing the area for video.

The unidentified 29-year-old was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he later died, police said.

Area 3 detectives were investigating.
