Former Lakers’ star Derek Fisher joins 97.1 The Fan as morning radio host

Los Angeles’ s new sports radio station 97.1 The Fan announced its weekday lineup on Thursday, May 7 with former Los Angeles Lakers’ star Derek Fisher and former San Diego Padres’ player Cody Decker as hosts of “Derek & Decker” morning show.

When the station switches from its current FM simulcasts of KNX News on May 18 listeners will find “Derek & Decker” on air from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday through Friday.

Fisher is a true L.A. sports hero, having played most of his 18 years in the NBA for the Lakers, with whom he was a five-time NBA champion. He later coached the New York Knicks, the Los Angeles Sparks in the WNBA and, most recently, Crespi Carmelite High School in Encino.

“Derek & Decker” will be followed at midday by the “Brock & Alex,” with former NFL safety Brock Vereen and Alex Curry, whose sports broadcasting career includes long runs on various Fox sports shows. Their show airs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays.

Afternoon drive time will be anchored by “D-Mac & Reiter,” pairing sports media personalities Doug McKain and Bill Reiter from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

“Los Angeles is a sports powerhouse with a deep connection between teams, fans, and culture, and this new lineup brings together championship-level personalities, veteran player perspective, and sharp analytical expertise,” said Andrew Williams, brand manager of 97.1 The Fan, in a written statement.

“We’re building a full-scale, live and local LA sports network that brings sports to the FM dial and across multiple platforms to meet our audiences where they are.”

Station owner Audacy announced in April it was switching formats at the station, which will be the first all-sports station on the FM band in the Los Angeles area.
