Texas Governor Greg Abbott, a Republican running for re-election with President Trump’s endorsement, was filmed chopping meat at the new Buc-ee’s Brisket restaurant in San Marcos, Texas.
Sara McGee, the Democratic nominee running for the Texas House of Representatives in House District 132, responded on social media, referring to Abbott’s Democratic opponent, State Rep. Gina Hinojosa.
“This is one of the cringiest things I’ve ever watched,” she wrote. “Is he mad at it? If this is his idea of campaigning, Gina has a real shot. Also, thanks for reminding us that we can’t afford beef.”
Abbott critics responded to the video with snark, including several who compared the visual to the late Democratic presidential nominee, Michael Dukakis. One replied, “It’s his Dukakis in a tank homage.”
While running against Republican Vice President George H.W. Bush, the Democratic presidential nominee Dukakis was photographed riding in a military tank. Politico reported: “The following week, a poll found that 25 percent of respondents said they were less likely to support him because of the tank ride.”
