Heavy rains delay opening of doors at Lollapalooza on Day 3

Gates opening for Lollapalooza Day 3 have been delayed until 3 p.m. due to heavy rains, organizers announced Saturday morning.

“At this time, we are actively working on cleaning up areas of the grounds with an updated plan to open doors at 3 p.m., with the Box Office opening at 1 p.m.,” according to a notification sent through the festival app.

It wasn’t immediately clear what the delay would mean for the lineup; the first artists were scheduled to take the stage starting at 12 p.m. Chicago disco-funk artist Ric Wilson is slated to perform at 1:15 p.m.

Periods of widespread torrential rainfall are expected to amount 1-2 inches, according to the National Weather Service, with localized amounts over 2-3 inches. The weather service also said there is a chance of a couple of thunderstorms Saturday evening. A flood advisory was in effect for the area until 1:30 p.m.Saturday.

Organizers encourage attendees to follow the festival’s social media accounts and the app for the latest updates.

This is a developing story; check back for updates.
