LA Daily News’ Athletes of the Week for Sept. 7-13

Here are the standout athletes in football, flag football, cross country and volleyball that have been selected by the Daily News for its Athletes of the Week honors for Sept. 7-13:

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

FOOTBALL

Elijah Tolbert, El Camino Real

Tolbert made three tackles and scored two touchdowns, including one on a punt return, that helped El Camino Real earn its first win of the season Friday.

Chaz Rodriguez, Kennedy

Rodriguez scored three touchdowns to lead Kennedy to a 34-24 victory over rival Granada Hills. Kennedy brought home the Granada Hills Chamber of Commerce Trophy for the fourth straight year.

Camren Ketner, Hart

Hart is showing there’s more to the team than Matix Frithsmith. With Frithsmith out, Ketner dazzled for Hart in a 49-14 victory over Heritage Christian. The junior passed for 203 yards and rushed for 121 yards.

Ebubechukwu Okobi, Notre Dame 

Okobi accumulated two sacks and six tackles for Notre Dame in a 49-14 rout of Oaks Christian.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Eden Tolbert, El Camino Real

The left-handed opposite ripped 14 kills and led El Camino Real to a five-set win over Chatsworth after it lost two of the first three sets.

Hannah McGinest, Sierra Canyon

McGinest posted a double-double against Harvard-Westlake with 13 kills, 10 digs and an efficient .286 hitting percentage to lead Sierra Canyon to a win in four sets.

FLAG FOOTBALL

Nina Ramirez, Cleveland

Ramirez, a junior quarterback, recorded six touchdowns (four passing, two rushing) in wins last week over Brentwood 33-6 and Roosevelt 20-0.

Shelbie Ratzlaff, Cleveland

The sophomore quarterback led Hart to Foothill League victories over West Ranch 12-6 and Golden Valley 46-6. Ratzlaff completed 12 of 18 passes for 154 yards three touchdowns and rushed for 43 yards against Golden Valley. She also threw two touchdown passes against West Ranch.

CROSS COUNTRY

Kai Ramsbottom, Saugus

Ramsbottom finished 16th in Lowell Invitational on Saturday with a time of 18 minutes, 6.09 seconds.

Eli Zasloff, Newbury Park

Zasloff had the fastest time in the Moorpark Invitational, finishing in 14:56.89.
