A man who was killed Sunday afternoon during a mass shooting that left at least six other people injured in Humboldt Park Sunday afternoon has been identified as an Austin neighborhood resident, Chicago police said.
Seven people were standing outside about 12:17 p.m. near an alley in the 700 block of North Christiana Avenue when two unknown vehicles approached and multiple armed people left the vehicles and fired shots, according to police.
Michael Howard, 18, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office, which ruled the Austin man’s death a homicide.
Six others were wounded, including a 14-year-old boy and a woman, police said.
- A 24-year-old man was shot in his leg and stomach and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was initially reported to be in critical condition.
- A 14-year-old boy suffered gunshot wounds to his thighs and was taken to Stroger Hospital. Police said the teen was initially in good condition.
- A 30-year-old woman was inside her car when she was struck by gunfire and crashed into a Chicago Transit Authority bus, police said. She suffered a gunshot wound to her hip and was taken to Mount Sinai, where she was initially in good condition.The bus driver was taken to a local hospital for observation.
- An 18-year-old man was struck in his shoulder and took himself to Stroger Hospital, where was in good condition.
- A 21-year-old man was shot in his leg and taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
- A 26-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to his foot and took himself to Stroger Hospital, where he was in good condition.
Area 4 detective are investigating.
