MAGA Congressman Rages Against “Weak” GOP Senators: “You Don’t Need to Be a Senator”

James Comer

U.S. Representative James Comer (R-KY) is one of several MAGA-aligned members of Congress who are trying to advance President Trump’s SAVE America Act, which many elected GOP members — including Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) — say doesn’t have enough votes.

As seen below, Comer told Fox News: “Unless John Thune is talking to exclusively with Mike Johnson, all that I’m hearing from the Senate leadership is they don’t have the votes. Not only do they not have the 60 votes, they don’t have 50 votes, which I don’t believe.”

He added: “Some of these Republicans say we cannot vote for that because we could lose our election. Are you that weak? That’s my question to any Republican Senator. Are you that weak where if you vote for a valid ID to be shown to vote, you’re going to get beat in your home state? I mean if you’re that weak, you don’t need to be a U.S. Senator.”

Organizations including the Brennan Center for Justice, the NAACP, and the ACLU, oppose the SAVE Act, which they assert “could keep millions of eligible U.S. citizens from being able to vote, severely restrict vote by mail, and increase federal control over state and local elections.”

The ACLU is encouraging Americans to write to their elected officials: “These bills aren’t about safeguarding elections. They’re about silencing voters. We can’t let these bills get any further: Tell Congress to reject these dangerous bills and protect our voting rights.”

[NOTE: In June, President Trump refused to sign a bipartisan affordable housing bill, legislation aimed at lowering housing costs and boosting supply, as a bargaining chip as he continues to demand that the SAVE America Act is passed. The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act was co-sponsored by MAGA-aligned Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and passed in the House with an overwhelming 358-32 majority. Comer voted for the bill.]
