A man pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery charges for throwing a bucket of liquid onto teens and parents at a Northwest Side Mexican dance studio, according to court records.
Robert Villanueva, 50, was sentenced to six months of probation after he pleaded guilty to five counts of misdemeanor battery Wednesday, according to Cook County court records. He was originally charged in the incident in March.
A video of the incident posted to social media shows Villanueva and a woman, who wasn’t charged, on a fire escape shouting, “You’re lucky ICE is not here.” Villanueva then throws cups of liquid toward the group, which was leaving Ballet Folklorico, a traditional Mexican folk dance studio in Avondale.
Earlier this year, Chicago police said the victims were a boy, 13, three girls — ages 13, 14 and 15 — and three women — ages 43, 41 and 40. At the time, police said there were other victims at the scene not listed in the report.
Villanueva’s probation will end in March, just weeks after the anniversary of the incident.
