A mysterious vigilante has emerged in Mexico, stopping ‘bike thieves’ after a spike in crime in the local area.

Alleged thieves have been found duct-taped to posts, with the word ‘ratero’ written on their heads, which translates to ‘thief’.

The men were found around Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco, often with moustaches and cat whiskers drawn on their cheeks, and the supposedly stolen motorbikes nearby.

The Sun reported that at least one man was left bloodied and bruised after his interaction with the vigilante.

Local police are said to be treating the duct-taped men as victims in the situation, with an investigation launched to find the mystery suspect.

A total of five cases have been reported, according to State Security Secretary Juan Pablo Hernández, and all the men were cut down and treated for their injuries.

The vigilante also left pink signs above the ‘thieves’ heads, detailing allegations of their crimes.

Police have identified two vehicles they believe are connected to the attacks, but no suspects have been named.

Users online shared pictures of the duct-taped men declaring the vigilante the ‘Batman of Lagos de Moreno’ or ‘Mexican Batman’.

This isn’t the first time vigilante justice has been issued recently, with a group of women in nearby Michocoán carrying assault rifles to protect themselves from the Jalisco New Generation cartel.

They’ve even got a homemade tank and set up roadblocks in an attempt to stop the gunmen, who are said to be responsible for a rise in homicides locally.
