An off-duty Long Beach police officer fired at two people accused of holding him at gunpoint and robbing him in Long Beach Sunday afternoon, July 12, authorities said.
A male suspect approached the officer in the area of Bixby Road and Orange Avenue about 1:30 p.m. and pointed what investigators believe was a gun at him while another male suspect robbed him, Long Beach police said.
The off-duty officer shot at the two suspects, whose ages were unknown, police said. It wasn’t known how many times the officer fired or what was stolen.
The officer wasn’t injured, police said. It was not known if the suspects, who fled, were struck by gunfire.
Investigations into the robbery and the police shooting were ongoing, police said.
