Our village is flooded by thousands of Harry Styles fans risking their lives…OAPs are among those applying to give tours

A VILLAGE is being flooded by thousands of Harry Styles superfans who are risking their lives – and volunteers are wanted take people round to improve safety.

Organisers are hunting guides to show where the singer had his first snog, the Chinese restaurant he once took Taylor Swift to and the bakery where he worked.

So far, 150 applications have flooded in – some from the other side of the world including entries from as far away as Australia and Argentina.

But others are closer to home, with local OAPs living in the picturesque village of Holmes Chapel, Cheshire, becoming unlikely competitors for the coveted spots.

The area has experienced a surge in tourism thanks to Harry‘s legion of fans.

And local leaders are now recruiting paid tour guides to lead the way through his old stomping grounds.

A spokeswoman for Harry’s Home Village Tours said: “We’ve been flooded with applications from all over the world.

“The interest has been unprecedented. It includes South America, North America, Europe and even Australia.

“Just this morning I had a girl contact me from Spain. The interesting thing is we’ve had a real mix of ages.

“We’ve had girls as young as 16 but also pensioners in the local area who are keen to get involved.

“They enjoy walking so have thought ‘why not’. There’s a mix of females and males too. It’s fantastic.”

There’s been so much interest, there was even discussion about whether the closing date for applications should be brought forward from April 15.

Over 5,000 fans – also known as ‘Harries’ – have flocked to the village in the last year alone.

Community group Holmes Chapel Partnership gives free maps to help visitors find popular Harry landmarks and take safe walking routes after failing to lobby the council to widen footpaths.

The not-for-profit organisation witnessed visitors frequently attempt a dangerous walk down the A535, a 50mph road, which leads to Twemlow Viaduct where Harry had his first kiss.

They hope the three-hour guided tours – running on Saturday mornings in June and weekdays from July to September – will ensure fans can enjoy sightseeing safely.

Peter Whiers, Chair of Holmes Chapel Partnership, said: “It’s an honour to welcome visitors from across the globe to our community and see them chatting with locals and enjoying the Cheshire countryside.”

Tickets cost £20 and all funds are diverted back into the village.
