Pasadena Public Health Department issued an alert on Tuesday, Aug. 15, pointing residents to a voluntary recall of select Outshine Fruit Bars manufactured by Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, Inc., because of possible glass contamination.
Officials said consumers who purchased an affected product, potentially in local stores, should not consume it.
“Discard it or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund,” according to the alert. “Anyone concerned about a potential injury should contact a health care provider immediately.”
The recall includes select Strawberry, Watermelon, Grape, Tangerine, and Black Cherry Outshine Fruit Bars sold in six-count, 2.5-ounce packages, as well as Outshine Variety 24-Count, 2.5-ounce Fruit Bars.
The affected products were distributed to retailers nationwide, including stores in Pasadena, though no illnesses or injuries have been reported.
“Residents who have purchased Outshine Fruit Bars should check their freezers and review the batch code and best-before date printed on the bottom of the package to see if they have a recalled product,” said Manuel Carmona, Director of Public Health.
The products were sold at major grocers including Ralph’s, Smart & Final, Stater Bros, Target, Vons, and others, according to Public Health. Officials were also notifying local retailers of the voluntary recall and support pulling products from shelves.
Officials said consumers should check the batch code and best-before date on the bottom of the package to determine whether their product is included in the recall. No other Outshine products or varieties are included in the recall, according to the Pasadena Public Health Department.
