Public League expands Red conference from 32 to 40 teams in new basketball alignment
Chicago Public Schools has released the new Public League basketball conference alignments.
The Red Conference has expanded from 32 to 40 teams. No teams were relegated after last season and Longwood, Dunbar, Chicago Richards, Jones, Schurz, Corliss, Prosser and Wells were elevated from the White to the Red.
Little Village, which won the White West last season, remains in the White. CPS has not responded to questions about that move.
There are now ten teams in each of the Red divisions. The new Red Central features Hyde Park, Phillips, Kenwood, King, Dyett, Perspectives-MSA, Englewood, Longwood, Dunbar and Chicago Richards.
Perspectives-Leadership has moved from the Red Central to the Red South, joining Simeon, Morgan Park, Lindblom, Fenger, Brooks, Julian, Bogan, Ag. Science and Corliss.
Jones and Schurz join Young, Lincoln Park, Lane, Lake View, Amundsen, Payton, Taft and Northside in the Red North.
Prosser and Wells join Curie, Crane, Clark, Marshall, North Lawndale, Farragut, Manley and Westinghouse in the Red West.
CPS has not provided the schedule for the upcoming season but multiple sources say teams will play conference foes once. There is also no word on the city tournament format, which expanded last year to include every team in the Public League.
