Road rage blamed for Brighton Park shooting that left woman, 32, clinging to life, alder says

Road rage apparently sparked a shooting attack that left a 32-year-old woman in critical condition Thursday morning in the Brighton Park neighborhood, Chicago police and an alderperson say.

The woman was a passenger in a vehicle in the 2400 block of West 47th Street about 9:30 a.m., when a gray car pulled up beside her and a someone inside opened fire, hitting her in the head, according to police.

The woman’s husband and two of their three children were also in the car, Ald. Raymond Lopez (15th) told the Sun-Times. Her husband is working with police to identify public and private surveillance cameras in the area, said Lopez, who added he believes road-rage sparked the shooting.

“As we get more information as to where this may have been originated. we’ll be asking for residents and businesses to check their cameras,” Lopez said.

The woman was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital and the shooter fled south on Western Avenue, police said.

In a Facebook post, Lopez said witnesses identified a gray four-door Toyota Scion with a rear bike rack as the shooter’s vehicle.

No other injuries were reported and no arrests have been reported.

Area 1 detectives are investigating.
