A brush fire burning in Los Angeles County and threatening Wrightwood and San Bernardino County prompted evacuation orders on Friday, July 10.
Capt. Eric Sherwin, a San Bernardino County fire spokesman, said the Summit fire had burned 1,300 acres as of 4 p.m., a little more than two hours after its ignition. The flames were moving in a south-southeast direction. The fire broke out just east of Piñon Hills.
“It won’t take much of a wind shift to drive it into our backyard,” Sherwin said.
But no evacuation advisories were in effect for San Bernardino County as of 4 p.m.
The fire started in the Antelope Valley community of Llano amid mid-90-degree temperatures about 12:50 p.m.
An evacuation order was issued for the area around East Avenue Z and Fort Tejon Road, while evacuation warnings were issued for other nearby areas.
At least 10 air tankers were dispatched.
No injuries were immediately reported. Crews reported some outbuildings had been damaged or destroyed, and that homes were in the path of the flames.
The fire burned into the Angeles National Forest.
