A custom-built Sherman Oaks home owned by sushi master Kazunori Nozawa is on the market for just under $6 million.
The concrete-and-glass hillside residence sits on a nearly three-quarter-acre gated lot. Designed with sharp geometric angles, the three-bedroom, three-bathroom house has a professional kitchen custom-tailored for its owner, who has built a Southern California restaurant empire.
Records show Nozawa and his wife, Yumiko, bought the property for $510,000 in December 1999. They later commissioned the house, which builders completed in 2004.
The interior boasts grand-scale spaces. A modern two-sided fireplace anchors the main living areas, which features high, wood-beamed ceilings, skylights and radiant-heated polished concrete floors.
Floor-to-ceiling glass walls flood the interior with natural light while offering unobstructed views of the San Fernando Valley.
Features of the chef’s kitchen include professional stainless-steel appliances and a central prep island paired with warm wood cabinetry and dark countertops.
Sleek built-in furniture enhances the living spaces throughout the home, including the primary suite, which features a custom bedframe with a pop-up television and window seats.
A boutique-style walk-in closet, a jetted tub and a seamless glass shower bordered by stone walls and frosted privacy windows add to the suite.
The property includes a backyard pool, an elevated spa, a built-in barbecue center and a rooftop deck with sweeping views.
Nozawa, 81, is a longtime figure of Southern California’s sushi scene. After immigrating to the United States, he opened Sushi Nozawa in Studio City in 1987, and ran the famously uncompromising eatery until it closed in 2012. He co-founded the Sushi Nozawa Group in 2007, launching Sugarfish in Marina del Rey in 2008, followed by Nozawa Bar in Beverly Hills in 2013 and KazuNori, The Original Hand Roll Bar in downtown Los Angeles in 2014.
Today, Sugarfish and KazuNori have locations throughout Southern California.
