One man was killed and another injured in a shooting in Rogers Park on Tuesday morning.

The victims, a 41-year-old and a 33-year-old, were in the 6900 block of North Glenwood Avenue when a gunman approached and began to fire shots in their direction, police said.

Both were shot in the back and were taken by paramedics to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, said Larry Langford, a spokesman for the fire department.

The younger man died there, said police, and the 41-year-old was listed in good condition, police said.

The attack happened near the Morse Red Line station, 1358 W. Morse Ave.

No one is in custody, and detectives are investigating.

Alicia Lopez, 55, of Rogers Park, was working the front desk at a foot and ankle clinic next to the train station when she witnessed the attack.

“I just saw two guys. They were shooting at each other, and one of them fell right there,” Lopez said, pointing outside the clinic.

Lopez said she stayed inside and called 911.

“I’ve been working here for 20-something years and it’s getting worse and worse everyday,” Lopez said.

“The shots were very close,” Lopez said. “They were really right here.”

Joyce London, 62, said she was in her Rogers Park apartment near the train station when she heard the gunshots.

“They were like rapid successions,” London said.

London said despite the shooting, she feels safe in the neighborhood. “This doesn’t happen everyday, but it’s still scary,” London said.
