LOS ANGELES — One of the great coaching minds in women’s basketball is making her return to Pauley Pavilion.
UCLA announced the hiring of former point guard Noelle Quinn on Wednesday.
Quinn, 41, returns to UCLA after 17 seasons playing and coaching in the WNBA, along with experience as a high school head coach in Orange County.
Quinn played a key role in the Seattle Storm’s WNBA title in 2018 and guided the Storm to the Commissioner’s Cup as head coach after leading the Storm to their fourth WNBA title as associate head coach in 2020.
Now Quinn joins UCLA coming off its first NCAA title under head coach Cori Close following four seasons as head coach for Seattle Storm from 2021-25.
Quinn spent last season as head coach for Breeze FC, part of the premier 3×3 women’s basketball league Unrivaled, and coached for her alma mater Bishop Montgomery during the final seasons of her WNBA playing career.
After being named a McDonald’s All-American at Bishop Montgomery in 2003, Quinn went on to become one of the great point guards in UCLA history. Quinn became the first Bruin – man or woman – to finish their career with 1,700 points, 700 rebounds, and 400 assists.
UCLA is coming off its first NCAA championship after defeating South Carolina 79-51 on April 5.
UCLA returns sophomore forward Sienna Betts, sophomore guard Lena Bilic and sophomore forward Christina Karamouzi. The Bruins added three experienced guards via the transfer portal – graduate senior KK Bransford (Notre Dame), senior Addy Brown (Iowa State) and sophomore Bonnie Deas (Arkansas) – and international freshmen Somto Okafor (Spain) and Lina Jerkovic (Serbia).
Also returning is junior Elina Aarnisalo from North Carolina (10.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game, 47.3% FG) after playing for UCLA during her freshman year.
