A Suffolk County woman has been convicted after lobbing dynamite through the window of her boyfriend’s bedroom, blowing up his hand.
Keyonna Waddell, 35, US, had a heated argument with her partner on March 22, 2024, inside his home in Deer Park, a hamlet in Long Island, US.
He stormed out of the home and asked Waddell to leave – when he returned, there was no sign she was inside.
The victim was later awoken by a hissing sound and noticed a small flame on the floor of his bedroom – a stick of handmade dynamite.
After failing to extinguish the flame, he grabbed the dynamite to throw it outside only for it to explode in his hand.
He felt ‘searing pain’ as he looked down to see that most of his hand was gone, the police said.
Doctors amputated what was left of his hand and arm.
Waddell was arrested the following day and investigators found she had threatened to blow the victim up with dynamite before.
A jury found her guilty last week of assault in the first degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the first degree, both felonies.
She will be sentenced on May 27 and faces up to 25 years behind bars.
District Attorney Tierney said: ‘Domestic violence can escalate to deadly levels, and this case is a sobering reminder of that reality.
‘Thanks to the outstanding work of our prosecutors and the Suffolk County Police Department, a dangerous individual has been held accountable and will face a lengthy prison sentence for this horrific act.’
