Fabio Capello has urged Juventus to sign Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood this summer, insisting there is ‘no doubts about his qualities’.

Greenwood, 22, left Old Trafford to join Getafe on a season-long loan deal on the final day of last summer’s transfer window after the club made a U-turn on reintegrating him back into the squad.

He has not played for the Premier League club since his arrest in January 2022 for attempted rape, controlling behaviour and assault. All charges were dropped in February last year.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has not ruled out the possibility of Greenwood returning to the club but United have been sounding out possible permanent moves ahead of the summer transfer window.

Greenwood impressed during his loan spell in Spain, scoring eight times and providing five assists in 29 appearances.

Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have discussed moves with United officials while Juventus have also been credited with interest.

The Bianconceri sit third in Serie A, trailing champions-in-waiting Inter by 20 points. Former England boss Capello, who played for and managed Juventus during his illustrious career, believes the club need to make at least four signings this summer to close the gap on their rivals, naming Greenwood as one option they should be considering.

Capello told Gazzetta dello Sport: ‘I’ve heard about Greenwood. A Manchester United talent who has been affected by personal issues, but seems reborn at Getafe. There are no doubts about his qualities.’

Capello also believes midfield is an area that needs most addressing in Turin, naming Atalanta star Teun Koopmeiners as one possible addition.

‘Juventus will need at least four quality signings to rival Inter in the title race next season,’ the 77-year-old said.

‘The Nerazzurri have 20 points more than the Bianconeri, and they have already made progress by signing Mehdi Taremi and Piotr Zielinski.

‘Juventus need quality in the middle to get closer to Inter.

‘Juventus would need one of Inzaghi’s midfielders. There is a lot of noise around Koopmeiners and he’d be a good reinforcement, but he would not be enough, especially if [Adrien] Rabiot leaves.

‘From the outside, I have the feeling that before deciding whether to extend, the Frenchman wants to understand whether Juventus want to build a team to win.’
