Marc Cucurella has urged former Chelsea teammate Enzo Fernandez to join him at Real Madrid this summer.

Cucurella joined Madrid earlier this month in a £52 million deal from Chelsea after Jose Mourinho’s side stepped up their efforts to beat competition from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Fernandez, meanwhile, is also on Madrid’s shortlist with Mourinho wanting to bolster his midfield options ahead of the new season.

The Argentina international raised doubts over his future at Chelsea last season and Cucurella says he hopes the 25-year-old will also make the move to Madrid.

‘He is a great player and he’s a friend of mine,’ Cucurella told Radio Marca

‘He congratulated me on my signing [for Madrid]. Let’s hope it gets done. I’d be very happy.

‘We’ve been very happy at Chelsea, and both having the chance to sign for Madrid in the same summer… let’s hope he’s lucky, and he becomes a Real Madrid player.’

Cucurella insists he is also fully aware of the demands of being a Madrid player after the club failed to win a trophy last season.

‘It’s a great challenge. Fitting in or succeeding there isn’t easy,’ Cucurella said.

‘It’s a very demanding club, where you have to be 100 per cent in every match; every team wants to beat you because of what Real Madrid represents. Everything is evaluated at the end of the season, looking at the titles, the matches, etc… it comes at a good time for me.

‘I’ll try to give my best. I’m an intense player who always gives everything for the team and my teammates.

‘The most important thing is to rebuild that winning team that Real Madrid already has as a foundation, but to finish improving a couple of things that haven’t quite worked in recent years. We all want the same thing – to win titles.’
