Man charged with fatally stabbing CTA janitor at Green Line station

A 37-year-man was charged with murder after a Chicago Transit Authority janitor was fatally stabbed last Thursday at the Damen Green Line station, according to authorities.

Chevazz Campbell of Kenwood turned himself in last week after Julian Mobley was attacked when he tried to help another CTA staffer who was allegedly pepper-sprayed by Campbell.

In addition to murder, Campbell faces charges for robbery, possession of weapon, carrying a weapon on CTA and fare evasion. He was expected to make his first court appearance Sunday.

When Mobley tried to help the staffer who had been attacked and pepper-sprayed, Campbell allegedly stabbed Mobley in the back of his neck with a pair of scissors. Mobley was taken to Stroger Hospital and pronounced dead a short time later. A Friday autopsy determined he died of a stab wound to his neck, and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
