Nicole Kidman and daughter show united front at Met Gala after Keith Urban ‘snub’

Nicole Kidman made an early statement on the Met Gala red carpet, arriving in a bold Chanel look alongside her daughter Sunday Rose.

As one of the evening’s co-chairs, the Oscar-winning actress fully embraced the spotlight, wearing a striking sequined red gown complete with feathered detailing at the waist and wrists.

The sculpted silhouette and high-shine finish ensured she was among the first stars to command attention as guests arrived.

Walking the carpet with her, Sunday Rose — Kidman’s 17-year-old daughter with ex-husband Keith Urban — provided a softer contrast in a strapless pink and purple gown, paired with coordinating statement earrings.

The pair’s joint appearance comes after reports that Urban was left ‘heartbroken’ following an interview in which Sunday praised her mother without mentioning her father.

Speaking to  Elle Australia, the teenager described Nicole Kidman as ‘my biggest inspiration in life’, adding: ‘She is a key part of everything I do.’

However, there was no reference to her father in the interview — something a source claimed had left the country singer struggling to respond.

‘Keith doesn’t know what to say, but he’s trying to put on a brave front,’ a source told New Idea at the time. ‘He knows he has to be patient; however, this latest snub… has stumped him. It’s like he doesn’t exist.’

Kidman and Urban, who married in 2006, confirmed their split last year after 19 years together. They share two daughters, Sunday Rose and younger sister Faith Margaret, 14.

Following the separation, it was reported that Kidman would take the girls for the majority of the time, with some weekends spent with their father.

The pair posed together for photographers, with their obvious affection for each other making a subtle statement about dynamics within the family.

While speaking to Vogue on the red carpet, Kidman said she chose her look because red is a strong symbol in art that often represents ‘love, passionate love, power.’

Sunday Rose, meanwhile, said she wanted to wear a look that looked like it was blooming, as it is her first Met Gala, with her Mom Kidman then chiming in, saying of her daughter: ‘She’s been so calm. She has to go to school tomorrow!’

This year’s theme, ‘Fashion Is Art’, has already delivered a wave of elaborate and theatrical ensembles, with Kidman’s feathered Chanel gown already among the standout moments of the night.
