On October 9, 2019, Coleen Rooney took to social media to utter one of the most iconic phrases in modern British pop culture: ‘It’s Rebekah Vardy’s account’.
It seems Vardy, 44, isn’t quite over the feud as she vowed she would ‘never’ apologise to her former friend.
In 2022, the two WAGs faced each other in court over the accusation that footballer Jamie Vardy’s wife had been leaking private stories about the Rooneys to the press.
The judge ruled in Rooney’s favour, with Vardy agreeing to pay almost £1.4 million in legal costs after the ‘Wagatha Christie’ trial.
Rooney, 40, released a documentary about the case and addressed it during her time in the I’m A Celeb jungle, but the former Dancing on Ice contestant has kept fairly quiet.
Vardy has now declared that ‘hell will freeze over’ before she says sorry to her fellow WAG, despite still facing public backlash.
‘I’m never going to apologise for something I didn’t do,’ she said in her new TV show. ‘Hell will freeze over before I do that.’
In her family’s new reality series, The Vardys, she addresses the ongoing impact of the libel case on her reputation, according to The Sun.
She insisted: ‘I’m living with the judgment the judge made but, still to this day, I believe she was wrong.’
Rooney had realised someone in her inner circle was leaking stories about herself and her family to The Sun’s Secret Wag column.
Instead of confronting the paper, she narrowed down her list of suspects by planting fake stories on social media, which led her investigation to Vardy’s account.
Vardy sued for libel after the social media accusation, denying everything but a judge ruled that it was ‘likely’ she was aware and ‘condoned’ her agent passing on the information.
‘People constantly go, “Well, it’s not going to change anything unless you apologise” Vardy continued. ‘But I’m not apologising for something I didn’t do.
‘It’s over, it’s done, I’m not going to carry on living in the past. I’m so f***ing bored of it.’
While on I’m A Celeb in 2024, Rooney discussed the case after campmate Jane Moore declared it was ‘epic’.
Rooney continued: ‘I just didn’t think it would have the impact it did, because I was just that sick and tired of it, it was draining.
‘That was my worst nightmare to go to court. I felt ashamed to go to court. I felt like it was putting a show on for the whole world. I want to get it sorted without going to court.
‘What got me, over the whole thing, was it became a bit of a joke and that’s really disappointing, it wasn’t a joke for me. No one knew the full story.’
She went on to create a Disney Plus docuseries, titled The Real Wagatha Story, about the case and the continued impact.
Meanwhile, Vardy trademarked the phrase ‘Wagatha Christie’ and has continued to insist she is innocent and has condemned the ‘abuse’ she’s received over the fallout.
Neither woman has indicated they’re looking to patch things up, and they’ve managed to steer clear of each other at public events so far.
