Rag N Bone Man’s wife, Zoe Graham, wept in court after she crashed into a car containing three children and a mum.
The 38-year-old had been overtaking a line of cars in her Range Rover, crossing a double white line to do so, when she hit Samantha Keen’s Ford.
She had been driving at more than 50mph at the time of the crash in 2023, rushing because she was late for the school run.
Keen and her three children were in the car, turning right into an animal rescue centre near Ringmer in East Sussex, when Graham’s car hit them.
Both cars went flying across the road, with the Ford ending up in a grassy verge, as seen on CCTV footage.
When the paramedics arrived, Keen begged them not to ‘leave her children orphaned’, having lost her husband to a car crash a year earlier.
Graham was handed a 12-week jail term, suspended for 18 months and disqualified from driving for a year.
She was originally charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving but entered a guilty plea, which saw the charge reduced to careless driving.
Graham told Hove Crown Court, according to The Sun: ‘I was a little bit late to pick my boys up. They suffer with anxiety and I felt the need to get there.
‘I saw the tractor and I hit her. I’ve never hurt anybody in my life and I would never. I’m a mum and I would never have wanted to put anyone through this.’
She said she had spotted a tractor ahead and decided to overtake, but failed to realise there were three cars in front of the vehicle, which she also went to overtake.
The front car was the Ford, which she didn’t see was attempting to turn right.
Crying, she added: ‘We are both mums and I know what children go through. I’m so sorry this happened because I would never want to put anyone through this.’
Judge Rennie said that due to the double white lines it was inherently ‘dangerous’ to overtake on that road.
He told Graham: ‘I accept this is wholly out of character. All this was avoidable if you had driven in the way you were supposed to.
‘I’m going to put you out of your misery, you’re not going to prison today.’
The judge added that he understood she was remorseful for the events and realised the impact of her actions.
‘This is a horrendous case where two families have been left traumatised by events,’ he said.
Graham met Rag N Bone Man – real name Rory Graham – in 2020 while working at a cafe near his home in Heathfield, with the pair tying the knot the next year.
