
Esteemed British actress Angela Pleasence, star of âDoctor Whoâ among many other works in film and television, has passed away. She was 84 years old.
Angelaâs death was announced on Instagram by her talent agency representative, Waring McKenna. The company detailed standout moments from her 5-decade career after she followed in the footsteps of her actor father, Donald Pleasence, who starred in the âJames Bondâ franchise as supervillain Blofeld.

âAfter training at RADA, she made her stage debut in 1964 as ‘Titania’ in a production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre,â Waring McKennaâs tribute said. âShe went on to perform at the National Theatre and in the West End in productions including Ghetto, The Hothouse, and The Cherry Orchard.â
âAngela also became closely associated with classic British horror, delivering memorable performances in films such as From Beyond the Grave, The Godsend, and Martin Scorsese’s Gangs of New York,” the statement continued.Â
Angela was known for her ability to transform into the strong characters she played on screen, as well as her versatility in role-playing. Her agency honored her remarkable talent in their statement, writing, âIn these roles, she brought remarkable depth and unease to complex, often enigmatic characters… While never defined by any one genre, her contribution to the British industry remains a distinctive and much-admired part of her legacy.â
Angela was a strong presence in British television, having starred in âHappy Valley,â âThe Six Wives of Henry VIIâ and âCoronation Street.â
She played the ethereal role of Ghost of Christmas Past in âA Christmas Carolâ in 1984. Angela also starred in the 1978 film “Les Misérables” as Fantine as well as the 1978 film “Hitler: The Last Ten Days” in 1978, according to her IMDb.

Fans of Angela honored her legacy in the comments of her agencyâs Instagram post. Many remembered her iconic roles, while others sent warm words to her family.
âI particularly remember her in Marple: Murder At The Vicarage. She showed humour in the role ð,â wrote one.
